Sydney Modern Art Gallery - Sydney, NSW

The Sydney Modern Project is a $344 million transformation and expansion of the Art Gallery of New South Wales. The redevelopment has created a world-class museum experience across two buildings, linked by a landscaped public art garden. The newly constructed North Building has nearly doubled the gallery’s exhibition space, offering an enriched cultural experience for visitors.

Project Design Brief

A key design consideration was to protect the building from rainwater around the single-level pavement between the North and South Buildings. A shallow drainage system with multiple outlets was needed to fit within the limited screed depth to prevent ponding. Pedestrian safety was also essential, with a focus on wheelchair accessibility and slip resistance.
